TWDTT 061 – The Other Side (S7E14)

The Other Side, also known as the antepenultimate episode of season 7 of The Walking Dead, was a rather middle of the road episode for the two of us. While it wasn’t terrible, it didn’t really knock our socks off either. This episode mainly focused on the unlikely–and reckless–pairing of Sasha and Rosita, with a little bit of the Hilltop sprinkled in for good measure. While we know what it is that motivates them, it’s hard to understand why they are making such rash decisions. It also seems unlikely that Sasha will survive her decision.

TWDTT 060 – Bury Me Here (S7E13)

Bury Me Here is the title of the 13th episode of The Walking Dead this season, and it was also what one character wanted, and, in the end, got. That character was Richard, and the one who buried him, both literally and figuratively was Morgan. Although the previews lead us to believe that this was a Carol-centric episode, it was really all about Morgan. Morgan was the one who arguably had the biggest character change this episode, a change that was brought about ultimately by Richard, the one he buried. What a circle of life and death this episode was; and it also brought a little rearranging and mind-changing.

TWDTT 059 – Say Yes (S7E12)

Say Yes is the next episode of The Walking Dead and there was a lot of yes in this episode. Michonne and Rick said yes to each other, Jadis said yes to Rick’s deal, Sasha said yes to Rosita’s ridiculous plan, and Tara said yes to herself when she (we think) decided to tell Rick about all the guns at Oceanside. What will be the result of all this yes? Probably something pretty spectacular, but we won’t find out next week! Next week looks to be a Carol-centric episode, which is quite alright with this podcaster. I hope she has a come to Jesus moment and will be ready to join the fight against the Saviors.

TWDTT 058 – Hostiles and Calamities (S7E11)

Hostiles and Calamities is the next episode of The Walking Dead, and it is an all Saviors all the time episode. If you couldn’t tell, neither one of us really cared too much for this episode. However, one bright spot, for at least one of us, is that Dwight gets beat up. Even though we didn’t, we always like it when our listeners enjoy the show!

TWDTT 054 – Hearts Still Beating (S7E8)

There are many Hearts Still Beating after the mid-season break for season 7 of The Walking Dead, but a few that have been stopped forever. Thankfully it was Spencer, unfortunately, it was also Olivia. Some characters weren’t on the road to learn the lesson that Rick learned, but some were and didn’t learn it good enough. I’m looking at you, Rosita, and now Eugene is paying the price for your stubbornness. I hope she has now learned her lesson, the lesson he tried to tell her when he told her that it might not be her that pays the price for her actions. Hopefully she will remember those words and how mean she was to Eugene and work extra hard to get him back.

TWDTT 053 – Sing Me a Song (S7E7)

Sing Me a Song is the title of the next episode of The Walking Dead, also known as season 7 episode 7, and the penultimate for this year. It is also another way that Negan shows his prickishness because he makes Carl, our little serial killer in training, do just that. While the seemingly budding bromance between Carl and Negan was the main focus of this episode, we also checked in with Rick and Aaron, Spencer and Father Gabriel, Rosita and Eugene, and Michonne. It seems that our characters are going off in all different directions, both literally and figuratively while they all try to cope with their new Savior situation. Michonne and Rosita are both hell bent on getting themselves killed…er, I mean going after Negan.

TWDTT 051 – Go Getters (S7E5)

What a difference a week makes! Go Getters, episode 5 of season 7 of The Walking Dead, was a welcome departure from the previous week, and we both liked it so much more than the one before. Brian had some weak sauce this week, but honestly, I was so happy to not see Negan again, I probably gave them a pass where I normally might not have. But that’s the way these things go sometimes. It was great to see Maggie again, and the path that she’s on with the Hilltop. Hopefully, Gregory will not be in charge for very long, although Xander Berkeley is quite divine. As Sonequa Martin-Green said on Talking Dead, Gregory cares more for his own safety than for the safety of others, and that is what makes him dangerous. How very right she is, and I think Jesus is starting to recognize this as well.

TWDTT 050 – Service (S7E4)

Episode 4 of season 7 of The Walking Dead, Service is all about Negan visiting Alexandria and taking their stuff, or as he says, providing service. More than that, though, it’s about making sure the Alexandrians understand their place in the grand Savior scheme of things. Negan wants to make sure they are demoralized and that they won’t ever try to fight back. I’m really hoping that fighting back happens very soon because I’m not sure how much more of this kicking them when they’re down that I can take.

TWDTT 049 – The Cell (S7E3)

The third episode of season 7 takes us to the Sanctuary, as Negan’s home is called, and we learn a little bit more about Dwight. Meanwhile, the title of the episode, The Cell is where Daryl spends most of his time. Also, he’s naked. That’s right, Daryl was naked for part of this episode. So if you didn’t watch it, you missed out. Because it was sexy time. Okay, not really, it was a terrible kind of naked that wasn’t sexy at all, but rather, very, very sad. Daryl was brought to his lowest point in the series so far: no clothes and being fed dog food sandwiches. He even cried at the end, and our hearts broke as poor Daryl only had Dwight to comfort him. A masterful performance by Norman Reedus, this episode nevertheless left some of us wanting a little bit more.

This episode should have been called Easy Street, for the obvious reason.

TWDTT 048 – The Well (S7E2)

The Well was definitely a different kind of episode than the season 7 premiere, and at least one of us really, really liked it. I won’t tell you who, you’ll just have to listen to see. Okay, twist my arm, it was me. This episode caught us up on what is happening with Morgan and our beloved Carol, as well as introduced us to a new community of people. During this episode we see an entirely new way of life in the zombie-pocalypse, one that seems a little hard for Carol to swallow. She thinks that The Kingdom is a joke and that King Ezekiel is, too. That is, until he lets her in on his little secret. By the end of the episode, I think Carol and I are in agreement. Ezekiel and Shiva aren’t so bad after all.

TWDTT 047 – The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be (S7E1)

The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be are prophetic words spoken by Dr. Jenner way back in season 1 as Rick and the gang fled an about to explode CDC in Atlanta. Much like Rick, we didn’t ever think that those words would or could come back to haunt us. Now we know differently. Two of our beloved characters will no longer be a part of our show, but they will not be forgotten. Especially by the rest of the characters. In fact, this episode will most likely be the story that changed everything.

Just make sure if you ever appear on a zombie apocalypse show that you never experience any character growth, or become the moral compass, or make plans for the future, because that’s the surest way to get killed off. Just like Rick did, we also fell in love with Jessie; and just like Alexandra Breckenridge, we are super bummed about Jessie’s fate, too. However, when it comes to Sam, responses vary wildly. I, for one, think he was a kid in a tough situation in which this outcome was probably inevitable. Major Dodson’s poor character just couldn’t catch a break. But after seeing him on The Talking Dead, he endeared himself even more, at least to this fan, making it that much harder to see him go.
