Ruthie & Brian discuss the season finale of Star Trek: Discovery S4E13, titled Coming Home. The DMA approaches Earth and Ni’Var. Discovery makes a final attempt to stop it. It was written by showrunner Michelle Paradise and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. We both liked this finale. It was probably our second favorite of the four season finales of Discovery, behind Season 2.
It’s taken a while for us to get back to Disco and to finally get this episode out, but here’s our take on the penultimate episode of Season 4, S4E12 titled Species Ten-C. It was written by Kyle Jarrow and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. Discovery makes first contact with the very alien species and needs to find a new way to communicate with them. We both liked this episode.
Ruthie & Brian discuss Star Trek: Discovery S4E11, titled Rosetta. This episode was written by Terri Hughes Burton and directed by Jeff Byrd & Jen McGowan. Discovery finds Species 10C’s original planet. Book & Tarka sneak onboard Discovery.
Ruthie & Brian discuss Discovery S4E10, titled The Galactic Barrier. This episode was written by Anne Cofell Saunders and directed by Deborah Kampmeier. Discovery tries to get through the Galactic Barrier, while Book learns more about Tarka’s past.
Ruthie and Brian discuss Discovery S4E9, titled Rubicon. This episode was written by Alan B. McElroy and directed by Andi Armaganian. Captain Burnham and the crew of the Discovery try to stop Book and Tarka from destroying the DMA.
Ruthie & Brian discuss Discovery S4E8, titled All In. This episode was written by Sean Cochran and directed by Christopher J. Byrne & Jen McGowan. Captain Burnham tracks Book down and gets drawn into a high-stakes competition for the weapon that will be used to stop the DMA.
Ruthie & Brian discuss Disco S4E7, titled …But to Connect. Burnham and Booker take opposing sides concerning what to do about the DMA. Zora’s new emotions make Starfleet and the Discovery crew raise some difficult questions about her future.
Ruthie & Brian discuss Star Trek: Discovery S4E6, titled Stormy Weather. Discovery goes into a subspace void left by the DMA and must get out before it collapses. Meanwhile, Zora has trouble dealing with her new emotions and Gray helps her deal with them as the ship and crew try to get through this crisis.
Ruthie & Brian talk through Star Trek: Discovery S4E5, titled The Examples. Stamets collaborates with a brilliant scientist with an even bigger ego than his, and Burnham and Booker attempt to rescue prisoners from an Akaali colony with the DMA approaching.
Ruthie & Brian talk through Star Trek: Discovery S4E4, titled All Is Possible. Tilly and Adira take some cadets out on a mission that goes bad; Burnham and Saru get involved in Ni’Var/Federation negotiations, and Culber helps Book deal with his trauma.
Ruthie and Brian talk through S3E10 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled Terra Firma, Part 2. Georgiou is back in the Mirror Universe but determined to rule things differently than before, trying to get Mirror Burnham back in the fold, saving herself in the process.
Ruthie and Brian talk through S3E9 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled Terra Firma, Part 1. Georgiou’s condition worsens and the Discovery computer sends them to a distant planet for a remote chance for a cure. What happens there may surprise you.
Ruthie and Brian talk through S3E7 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled Unification III. The USS Discovery arrives on Vulcan, but it’s now called Ni’Var, and the Vulcans share the planet with Romulans, who have unified just as Spock had wished for centuries ago. They hold data for The Burn, but getting it from them turns into a process that may begin to tear them apart.
Ruthie and Brian talk through S3E6 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled Scavengers. Burnham and Georgiou go on an unsanctioned mission to rescue Book and get a Black Box. Burnham and Saru deal with the reprecussions of that decision. We talk A LOT about that.
Ruthie couldn’t join us again this week, so Brian and guest host LT from The Walking Dead Talk Through talk through S3E4 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled Forget Me Not. We enjoyed this expositional Trill episode combined with an old-fashioned dysfunctional Thanksgiving dinner. All in all, this was a very enjoyable episode.
Ruthie couldn’t join us this week, so Brian had guests LT from The Walking Dead Talk Through and long-time listener James the Augmented Sailor join him to talk through S3E3 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled People of Earth. We enjoyed this expositional episode, but not as much as the first two. Earth has gone through a lot of changes since 2258, but it’s strangely more like modern-day Earth than the one we see in the 23rd Century.

For episode 30 of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, Ruthie is back, as we discuss Star Trek: Discovery – S2E5, which is titled, Saints of Imperfection. This episode is written by Kirsten Beyer, and directed by David Barrett. This episode continues the search for Spock (no pun intended), but comes up with a dead end, as Georgiou and Section 31 appear. Stamets and Burnham enter the network to rescue Tilly but end up finding another long lost character, too. By the way, we LOVED it!!!
For episode 29 of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, Ruthie is out sick, but we have special guest co-host Wes Huntington of the Minnesota Star Trek Nerd Podcast to co-host in her place, as we discuss Star Trek: Discovery – S2E4, which is titled, An Obol for Charon. The episode’s teleplay is by Adam McElroy and Andrew Colville. The episode’s story is by Jordon Nardino & Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts. It is directed by Lee Rose. The search for Spock (no pun intended) hits a snag, as the Discovery encounters a big entity in space, the size of a small moon. The entity seems to bring on vaharai, the final cycle of life for Saru’s species, or so we think. Meanwhile, Tilly, Stamets and Reno work in Engineering, as May has retaliates.
We love Captain Pike! For episode 26 of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, Ruthie and I discuss the Season 2 premiere of Star Trek: Discovery – S2E1, which is titled, Brother. It was written by Ted Sullivan & Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts (the latter two were the showrunners at the time this was filmed), and it was directed by the current showrunner and co-creator, Alex Kurtzman. We both loved this supersized movie-like premiere! If you haven’t given Discovery a try, this epic episode is one you can jump right in!
