Star Trek: Discovery – Season 1 Episode 11: The Wolf Inside

Ruthie and I discuss Star Trek: Discovery S1E11, titled The Wolf Inside. Our heroes continue to try to make it back home from the dog eat dog Mirror Universe. We see new but familiar races, several alternate versions of people we know, and struggle to maintain their humanity, while one discovers something else entirely. Ruthie LOVED The Wolf Inside, and I did, too, but not quite as much as she did.

Fred’s pics…

Fred from The Netherlands shared some pics in his feedback, showing us the wonderful use of lighting in this episode, as these first two of the bathtub scene! I share them with you throughout this blog post!

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Be warned, if you haven’t seen this episode yet, you will probably not want to read the rest of this post! We spend a lot of this episode aboard the Shenzhou, and some on an away mission.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who am I?

We finally learn, after months of speculation, that Tyler is, in fact, the Klingon Torchbearer Voq. He is the Secret Klingon many of us thought he was. As I said in the podcast, this could have really been told in a boring, anti-climactic way, but it really worked for me! I never expected for Tyler to encounter the Mirror Voq down on the planet Harlak, but the way it went down was really effective. I didn’t say this in the episode but kudos to Shazad Latif for a stellar performance in the many faces of Tyler/Voq! He reminds me of Tatiana Maslany’s many clone performances in Orphan Black. To see Burnham “space” him, well, almost… was shocking, and even more shocking when he got beamed back to Discovery!

Captain Killy or Doctor Killy?

We see Tilly treat Stamets with, what else, spores! Tilly has always been a favorite of mine, but she continues to shine in the Mirror second half.

Hail the Emperor!

We learn that the Terran Emperor is none other than Phillipa Georgiou! We both predicted it, but the way it was revealed makes us think the next episode is going to really be awesome!
